Filters are cheap parts doing expensive jobs. The engine air filter keeps abrasive grit out of your cylinders, the oil filter traps the particles that would otherwise circulate through your bearings, the fuel filter protects the injection system, and the cabin filter cleans the air you actually breathe.
They are also the parts most often upsold. Our position is simple: we check them free with every oil change, we show you what we find, and we replace them when they are dirty rather than on a schedule that suits us. A filter with plenty of life left is a filter that stays in the car.

How often should the engine air filter be replaced?
Roughly every 20,000 km, but condition beats mileage here. Dusty routes, construction traffic and gravel roads clog a filter far faster. We inspect it at every oil change and tell you honestly whether it needs doing yet.
What does a cabin filter actually do?
It filters the outside air before it reaches you through the vents, catching pollen, road dust and soot. A blocked one restricts airflow from the heater and air conditioning and often produces a musty smell when the fan first comes on. It is one of the most commonly forgotten filters on the vehicle.
Can I just clean a filter instead of replacing it?
Only if it is a washable performance filter designed for it. Standard paper filters cannot be cleaned effectively — tapping the dust out leaves the embedded particles in the media and can tear it, which is worse than leaving it alone.
