A standard oil change uses conventional mineral-based motor oil: refined from crude, well proven, and perfectly adequate for a great many engines on the road. If your vehicle is older, naturally aspirated and driven gently around town, this is very often the right service rather than the cheap one.
What matters more than the grade is that it actually gets done on schedule. Conventional oil has a shorter useful life than synthetic, so the interval is tighter — roughly 5,000 km. Stretching it is where the damage starts, because the detergent and anti-wear additives deplete long before the oil looks dirty on the dipstick.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is conventional oil bad for my engine?
Not at all, provided it meets your manufacturer's specification and is changed on time. Millions of engines run their entire lives on conventional oil. It is only the wrong choice when the manufacturer specifically requires a synthetic standard, which is common on turbocharged and European engines.
How often do I need a standard oil change?
Every 5,000 km or three months, whichever comes first. Toronto driving — short trips, heavy traffic, cold winter starts — counts as severe service under most manufacturers' own definitions, so this is not a figure to stretch.
Do I need an appointment?
No. Walk-ins are welcome during business hours and most standard oil changes take about 30 minutes.
