Full synthetic motor oil is engineered in a lab rather than refined from crude, which gives it a far more uniform molecular structure than conventional oil. In practice that means it resists oxidation and thermal breakdown under heat, holds its viscosity when the engine is working hard, and keeps flowing at temperatures where conventional oil turns sluggish.
That last point matters more in Toronto than almost anywhere. Most engine wear happens in the first seconds after a cold start, before oil pressure reaches the top of the engine. On a January morning in Etobicoke, a full synthetic reaches the valvetrain measurably faster than a conventional oil — which is why we recommend it for anything turbocharged, direct-injected, or European.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is full synthetic worth the extra cost?
For a turbocharged, direct-injection or European engine, yes — those engines run hotter and are specified for synthetic oil from the factory. Because the interval is roughly double, the cost per kilometre works out close to conventional. For an older, low-stress engine driven gently, a blend is often the sensible choice and we will tell you so.
Can I switch from conventional to synthetic?
Yes. The old myth that switching causes leaks came from early synthetic formulations decades ago and does not apply to modern oils. You can change at any service with no special preparation. If your engine already has a weeping seal, synthetic will not cause the leak but its better flow can make an existing one more obvious.
How long does a synthetic oil change take?
About 40 minutes for most vehicles, including the inspection. Walk-ins are welcome at 144 Sixteenth Street, and calling ahead means we can have the correct oil and filter ready before you arrive.
