Brakes are the one system where deferring maintenance changes the odds of an accident rather than just the size of a future repair bill. They are also wear items by design: pads are meant to be consumed, and how fast depends almost entirely on how and where you drive.

Toronto stop-and-go traffic is about the hardest duty cycle a brake system sees. Every stop converts the vehicle's momentum into heat through the pads and rotors, and city driving means far more stops per kilometre than a highway commute. We measure pad thickness and rotor condition at every service and give you real numbers rather than a colour code.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do brake pads last?

Anywhere from 30,000 to 90,000 km depending on driving. City driving with frequent stops wears pads much faster than highway kilometres. Rather than guess from mileage, we measure the remaining thickness and tell you roughly how much life is left.

Do rotors have to be replaced with the pads?

Not always. If the rotors are above the minimum thickness stamped on them and the surface is even, they can often be machined or simply reused. If they are below spec, scored or warped, they must be replaced — a new pad on a bad rotor will not bed in properly and you will be back.

Why do my brakes squeal?

Often it is the wear indicator — a small metal tab designed to contact the rotor and make noise when the pad gets low. It can also be dust, glazing, or a seized caliper slide pin causing a pad to drag. Grinding is different and more urgent: that is usually metal on metal, and it damages the rotor every time you brake.
